Secretary of Labor Solis and Dr. Jill Biden Visit DG Medical

BioOhio Workforce Development and Sinclair Community College Partnership Highlighted

Centerville, Ohio, USA, February 23, 2012:  DG Medical, a company specializing in plastic molding of medical devices, was host to U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, to highlight the important role of community colleges in meeting the workforce development needs in today’s high tech industries.  BioOhio, a nonprofit organization working to develop the bioscience industry in the State, and Sinclair Community College were also on hand for the day.  BioOhio has played a key influence in building the bridge between industry and education through its workforce development endeavors.

As a contract manufacturer for the medical device industry, DG Medical is focused on providing its customers with the highest quality manufacturing, which requires a workforce that is competently trained for operating in a tightly regulated industry. To achieve the necessary skilled workforce, the company is utilizing the Bioscience Manufacturing Technology Certification Program offered by Sinclair Community College in Dayton.  The program is specifically designed to give workers the knowledge and skills needed to excel within the bioscience industry.  To date, seven DG Medical employees have received their certification from the program and are putting their new skills to use in the company’s state-of-the art ISO 7 clean room facility.

“As a company, we have been very pleased with the partnerships that we have developed with BioOhio and our local community college,” said Mike Sieron, President and CEO of DG Medical.  “At DG Medical, we understand the necessity of having a staff that is fully trained for the bioscience industry.  The workforce development partnerships established between industry and education have been an avenue for us to develop a highly trained team of employees that know how to make a perfect part every time…which in the end is the most important outcome for our customers.”

During the visit, Secretary Solis and Dr. Biden toured the DG Medical facility to see first hand the company’s capabilities in producing high-tech medical devices.  Secretary Solis and Dr. Biden also took time to speak with the employees who had benefited from the training they received through Sinclair and how it helped to prepare them for an improved career path in the bioscience industry.
